From court to community: Darelle's inspiring journey

Darelle Porter, a local basketball legend in Pittsburgh, PA, is best known as a former standout guard for the Pitt Panthers and for coaching the men's basketball team at Duquesne University. His commitment to youth development deepened during his tenure as the long-time Executive Director of Ozanam, Inc. youth program in the Hill District. Now, Darelle brings his own youth programs to the Northside of Pittsburgh, where he has been a resident for over 30 years, ensuring he pours back into his own community. He proudly serves as Executive Director/CEO of the DAP2KK Organization.

Darelle envisions significant positive changes for young people. He emphasizes strong mentorship from caring adults, coaches, teachers, and community leaders who believe in and guide them. He is dedicated to creating safe spaces like youth centers and after-school and creative programs where young individuals feel accepted and protected. Furthermore, Darelle champions mental health support, positive role models, family and community support, and leadership opportunities, all aimed at violence prevention and fostering safer neighborhoods.
